Moodbidri, Nov17: “Government is very serious about the Kambala issue, and concerened about its ban” Minister for youth empowerment, sports and fisheries, Abhayachandra Jain said in Moodbidri on Sunday.

Jain was speaking during a meeting of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts’ Kambala committees, held in Moodbidri discuss about Kambala issue in Moodbidri.

“Government has not banned the Kambala yet. It is only that the district administration had acted on the basis of Supreme Court order. I will talk to state law minister on the issue. I will talk to central law minister as well.” added Jain.

Jain is also the president of Kadalakere Kambala committee.

‘The Jalikkatu was banned in Tamilnadu. But there is a difference between Jalikkatu and Kambala. The Supreme Court order has been misinterpreted. Government should not ban Kambla by any means.’- was the unanimous decision taken at the meeting.

The committee decided to send a delegation to the state capital. The delegation will include four ministers from the undivided Dakshina Kannada and others concerned with Kambala sport.

The committee also requested the administration to co operate to make modifications in the Kambala sport.

Kambala committee president Bhaskar S Kotian was present

"Kambla" banned, is the issue from the Supreme Court where our corrupt State Govt ministers, officials were slept o what until the case put up to the S.C.? ok all tuluvas should obey the court of law & henceforth no kambla, no koridakatta. Be productive & happy. Villagers, farmers now on wards they can reduce the cost of maintaining such buffaloes simply to participate in such activities on prestige question & such money can be utilized for Agriculture development, is not it?

In the name of kambala, riders on race are simply beating buffaloes mercilessly to joy and glorifying the same. This is condemnable act of race riders.

Also organisers collecting huge donations from the poor and mid class people to invite celebrities(film) and to organsize music orchestra etc.

For some rich high village heads it's a matter of prestige to send a pair of buffaloes to the race, though not used for ploughing.
Workers under these level-headed persons, spend thier most of life time in remote village sheds just to cater these buffaloes. They are restricted and bonded labours to life.

Mr Minister, How can i dumb/innocent animals avoid traumatic beating pain on the whole kambala day. Who else could help them except supreme court.
I wish a complete ban prevail on kambala events. If you believe that kambala is rich heritage/culture, can all of us
go back to grandparents age to rid off shirts/pants and start wearing dhoti, pyjama and kurtha?

Let the event organizers move to car, bike, cycle racing where they can freely, repeatedly beat on non-living things.

Lack of discretion and pathetic legal system !! with out knowing the difference between Jalikkatu and kambula , are passing the orders ??
Prostitution is legal in west , implement it blindly in India !!. Liquor is banned in kerala & gujarat ban it in karnataka !.

This means supposed torture is more punishable than killing?

    @ Mahendra Shetty...
    Shetre...mapu malpule..

I am not against Kambla. But I am not favoring nose rope through animal nostrils which makes them uncomfortable & harassing. Some other form of animal controlling should be adapted or researched.
About social issues and the most pressing one is corruption and no politicians are serious about it. In addition sanitary, electricity, water, road, shelter for poor etc. are need to be looked into it on priority basis.
I wish all the old traditional festival should continue.
