Mangalore, Nov 13: Prohibitory orders were clamped in Mulki town limits after tension prevailed in the area since Saturday.

The Hindu Jagarana Vedike had demanded immediate arrest of culprits who allegedly made an attempt on the life of its leader Sukhananda Shetty a few days ago and also a ban on cow slaughter. They also wanted to take out a procession in this connection.

In view of the riots that shook the district just over a month ago, the police refused permission for the procession. But eh HJV activists insisted on holding the protest. So the talks between its leaders and the police went on beyond Saturday midnight.

Since the HJV was adamant, the district authorities were forced to impose Section no. 144 with effect from Saturday, November 11 midnight until Tuesday, November 14 midnight.

Heavy police presence is seen in Mulki. Security has been provided in all sensitive areas.
