Himachal court seeks report on house tax recovery


Shimla, Nov 20 (IANS): The Himachal Pradesh High Court Thursday directed the deputy commissioner of Shimla and the tehsildar (recovery) to file a fresh status report, indicating the process initiated by them for the recovery of house tax from the defaulters.

A division bench of Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice D.C. Chaudhary directed the officials to file replies within four weeks and listed the matter for next hearing Jan 1.

The court has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report on non-realisation of house tax by the Shimla Municipal Corporation.

In an affidavit, the tehsildar said Rs.11,84,000 have been recovered from 34 defaulters and the process of recovery from other defaulters has been initiated.
