IS leader, two others killed in Iraq airstrike

Mosul (Iraq), Nov 20 (IANS/EFE): A leading member of the Islamic State (IS) Sunni radical group and two others were killed overnight in airstrikes launched by the international coalition near the Iraqi city of Mosul, an Iraqi military source told Efe news agency Thursday.

Killed in the attack was Radwan Taleb Hussein al-Hamduni, appointed as the IS "wali" or governor of the area, the commander of the Liberation Force of the northern province of Nineveh, Gen. Khaled al-Hamdani, told Efe.

Also killed was al-Hamduni's assistant and an unidentified IS leader with Saudi Arabian nationality.

Al-Hamdani also said that last week dozens of IS leaders and fighters were killed in strikes on the jihadis' positions by the US-led coalition near Mosul.

Al-Hamduni was accused of being responsible for the deportation of thousands of families belonging to the Turkmen minority and the killings of dozens.
