Terror plot averted in Meghalaya

Shillong, Nov 20 (IANS): Seven insurgents were arrested in Meghalaya Thursday, as police averted a plot to carry out an explosion in the assembly constituency of Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

The seven militants were arrested from South West Garo Hills district based on inputs about their bid to carry out explosions in the region.

"We have foiled their plot to carry out explosions in Ampati and attacks on police personnel in South West Garo Hills," district police chief Ramachandran Muthu told IANS.

Ampati, the assembly constituency of Mukul Sangma, is the district headquarters of South West Garo Hills, 375 km from here.

A police spokesperson said a powerful remote-controlled explosive device with two detonators, a pistol and four rounds of ammunition were seized from them.
