Kolkata, Nov 21 (Agencies): Three prominent West Bengal politicians have been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation today in Kolkata in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
Two of them - Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose and Congress leader Somen Mitra - have said they will show up but the third, West Bengal transport minister Madan Mitra, checked into a government hospital yesterday after spending four days at a private nursing home.
Mr Mitra was sent the CBI summons on Tuesday to appear today. This is the first time that a state minister has been summoned by the CBI in connection with the Saradha scam.
Mr Mitra was known to be close to the Saradha chief Sudipta Sen who is now behind bars. There are videos clips of Mr Mitra profusely praising Mr Sen at a meeting of Saradha agents.
The Saradha Group operated a Ponzi scheme offering massive returns of 40 per cent and more until it collapsed last year, leaving lakhs of small investors bankrupt in West Bengal and Odisha.
The CBI has filed two chargesheets in the case - the second one was filed on Monday.
