Let upper age of civil services aspirants remain: CPI-M

New Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS): The CPI-M Friday urged the government not to reduce the upper age limit and the number of attempts by applicants for the civil services examinations.

"Such a step would adversely affect all those who are seeking to join the civil services," the Communist Party of India-Marxist said in a statement.

"The move to reduce the age eligibility and the number of attempts for SC/ST candidates is particularly objectionable," it said. "The government should not take any step in this direction."

CPM's objection to reduction in age limit & no of attempts in civil services not justified? Left is fall into the game of appeasement by way of positive discrimination. In fact, age limit & no of attempts must remain the same for all. Of course, if the govt feels ST/SC people must be brought up at par with the upper caste then it is free to promote positive action by way of giving scholarships and free coaching bridge the gap, but positive discrimination is counterproductive as it breeds complacency & divisiveness.
