Moderate intensity tremor jolts Kashmir


Srinagar, Nov 21 (IANS): A moderate intensity tremor was felt in Jammu and Kashmir Friday afternoon although no casualty has been reported so far.

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted the state at 2.28 p.m. Friday, Met Office director Sonam Lotus told IANS.

The epicentre of the earthquake was in the Hindukush mountain region of Afghanistan, he added.

Officials in provincial administration here said no reports of casualty or damage has been reported so far.

A massive earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale struck Jammu and Kashmir in October 2005, killing more than 40,000 people in the Indian and Pakistan administered parts of the divided state.
