6.7 magnitude earthquake hits Japan


Tokyo, Nov 23 (IANS): Over 50 people were injured and about 10 houses collapsed after a 6.7-magnitude quake on the Richter scale hit Japan, media reported Sunday.

The quake hit Nagano City and Hakuba village in Japan where at least 10 homes collapsed late Saturday, Xinhua reported Sunday citing local authorities

No damage was reported at a nearby nuclear power plant in Niigata Prefecture, according to its operator.

Local authorities were still assessing the damage and injuries in Nagano City , which hosted the 1998 Winter Olympics.

The meteorological agency also warned of possible strong aftershocks in the coming week.
