Deadly Ebola disease detected in Shivamogga?

Shivamogga, Nov 24: The news about the appearance of the deadly Ebola disease has sent shockwaves in Shivamogga, though it is not yet sure whether any Ebola affected person was really found in the district or not.

Dr P Nagaraja Naik, the district medical officer has said that a person who had come from the USA had shown symptoms of Ebola. The person is a 32-year-old software engineer from Bhadravathi origin. The officer has made it clear that presently there is no problem in the district as far as Ebola case is concerned.

Upon enquiries, it has been learnt that the said engineer ‘recovered’ from the deadly disease after taking ‘treatment’ and gone back to the USA.

But as the statements from the health authorities are confusing, people are worried until exact details are provided. The questions being raised are - who was that person who came from the USA and whether he was really affected by Ebola, and if so, what treatments he underwent.

As per government directives, Ebola cases have to be reported at airports only. Strict measures are being followed to detect Ebola at all international airports in India.

    In this news article the word 'ebola' is used like common cold. Dr Naik seems to have no knowledge of this sickness, the required treatment or how deadly it could be for the persons who have come in contact with the said patient. Any suspected cases are right away put under quarantine. Even the medical staff that treat patient have to follow set procedures prior to having any interaction with the patient. The medication for Ebola was still under testing stage, but the medical companies were instructed to release it mainly to contain sickness for now. I don't think this was an Ebola case, as the person was cured and traveled back to US. The people of Shivamogga had a clean escape this time. Hope this blunder by a professional doctor serves as an example for other doctors so that they get out of their comfort zone and educate themselves to be ready for any eventual catastrophe.

    Doctor wants his name to be published in media, otherwise why he kept quiet till the suspected patient came and went back. He does not know the source of EBola. Its not from USA BUT FROM Africa

    Article says the patient showed symptoms of Ebola. Symptoms are often misleading as Ebola shares symptoms with other common ailments also. Many (Baba Ramdev is one of them) claimed successful treatment for HIV/AIDS in Ayurved which later turned out to be hoax and many so called cured patients refuse to undergo ELISA or Western blot.

    Hello Flavian,
    No worries, I am slowly getting used to addressing Mangalore as Mangaluru- when i speak Tulu i address it as Kudla, when i speak konkani i say Mangluru or some times Kodial.
    In fact my friend who applied for his OCI here at Indian consulate got his application rejected becuase he mentioned home town as Mangalore istood of Mangaluru, so it has now become official, so we should get used to it.
    I had heard about this case of suspected Ebola in Shivamogga & one in Kerala on SBS and Foxtel news Channels in Australia. So this case might be true.

    Friend, after so many years of being used to call our city as Mangal(ore)uru, it may take some time to adjust ourselves to the Indian name for our City. Spelling we can take care but pronunciation may not be the case. Have you changed your pronunciation while conversing?

    Flavian, Mangalore/Kuwait. and Baba, Bangalore. Bangalore & Mangalore have officially renamed as Bengaluru & Mangaluru, Bristish have left India way back in 1947, learn and get used to addressing these cities as their Indian names.

    If a person with Ebola got treated ( if he really had one), is not a surprise, there are good doctors even in smaller cities like Shivamoga, in fact you can get better treatment in India than USA if you see a good doctor, a good hospital and pay better money. So please don't make fun of people or doctors in India, in fact lot of Australian & other Western people come to admit themselves in Ayurvedic hospital run by Dr. Veerendra Hegde of Dharmastala in Udupi (SDM Ayurvedic hospital). If in doubt check yoursef.

    A man with ebola comes from the USA. He gets treated for Ebola in Shimoga. He gets cured and flies back to USA. How ridiculous. At this rate Shimoga can open a BPO for treating and curing Ebola patients from the world.
