Police raid webcam hackers in Europe

London, Nov 24 (IANS): Police in Europe arrested hackers who had taken control of computer webcams and were broadcasting video footage over internet.

Four people were arrested from Britain and 11 other suspected hackers were held in Estonia, France, Romania, Latvia, Italy and Norway, the Independent reported.

Using remote access Trojans, commonly known as RATs, hackers can gain control of computers by remote and then watch their unsuspecting victims through the computers' in-built webcams.

Earlier, a Russian website, Insecam was found broadcasting images of people in the confines of their home. It listed the available feeds to view both by country and device manufacturer.

Some of the images of naked and half dressed women taken using their own computer cameras were shared on internet.

Britain is trying to get Russian authorities to take action and shut down the website.
