Mangalore, Nov 15:   The Vanilla Growers’ Association (DK), in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture and Spices Board, is organizing a meeting of vanilla cultivators on Saturday November 18, in the auditorium of Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work.

The meeting intends to enlighten the farmers on getting their Organic Certification. Addressing the media persons at the press club here on Wednesday November 15, Karyappa P S, president of the Association, said that as receiving the certificate individually is a difficult task, attempts will be made to see that the farmers receive them as a group.

He added that fall in the prices has created hardship for the vanilla planters. He revealed that a protest will be staged in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Saturday, urging the central and the state governments to consider the demands and grievances of the cultivators.

A highlight of the meet will be a workshop that will be conducted for the farmers on vanilla processing by the Spices Board.

Sunny D’Souza, secretary and Prabhakar Pejattaya, treasurer of the Association respectively, were also present at the press conference.
