Odisha Assembly adjourned as Cong MLAs throw banners, break mike

Bhubaneswar, Nov 24 (PTI): Odisha Assembly was paralysed today as Congress MLAs threw banners at Speaker's chair protesting denial of a debate on multi-crore chitfund scam, while ruling BJD members stormed the well accusing the Central government of neglecting the state.

While, forenoon session was stalled by treasury bench members who trooped into the well with posters and banners accusing the Centre of ignoring Odisha's interest while dealing with Polavaram project and providing assistance for natural calamities, Congress created ruckus in the afternoon.

Due to pandemonium by ruling BJD members as soon as the House assembled for the day, Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House till 3 pm.

It was Opposition Congress's turn when the House reassembled in the afternoon. As the Speaker went ahead and asked law minister to introduce a bill without speaking anything on Opposition notice regarding a debate on chitfund scam, Congress members rushed to well of the House and protested.

Holding placards, angry Congress members threw banners and posters at Speaker while the party chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati climbed the podium and broke the mike on the table.

As the pandemonium continued, the Speaker announced the adjournment till tomorrow.

In the forenoon session, the treasury bench members lashed out at the successive central government accusing them of ignoring Odisha on several issues including natural calamities.

The business advisory committee of the Assembly convened by the Speaker in the afternoon also failed to resolve the impasse in the House. Leader of opposition Narasingha Mishra of Congress walked out of the advisory committee meeting after speaker said that he had been examining whether to allow a debate on the chit fund scam.

The Congress members said that it was agreed at the all party meeting on Saturday that two motions by the Opposition on the issue of chitfund would be taken up for debate in the House.

But when the House assembled today, treasury bench members created ruckus in a bid to avoid a discussion on the chit fund issue, Mishra claimed.

Nothing Shocking in that. Typical Culture they are showing. Most of them do not know why they are in that party even. They have to show their frustration at someone, you can see some in this forum too. Fortunately they cannot throw anything else they would end up breaking their screen or monitor. Its a silly news.
