New Delhi, Nov 24 (IANS): The Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here launched a course Monday to improve emergency medical services in trauma centres across India and train citizens in basic life support during accidents,.
The course was introduced two months after RML was designated the nodal hospital by the health ministry to study the gaps in the basic life support being given to victims both in the trauma centers and in their absence.
"Through this course we will train the students about the basic life support and the advanced life support system. Once trained these students will go to various parts of the country and similarly train other people," said A. K. Gadpayle, Head of the Medicine department at RML during the inaugural function.
Currently, the hospital has admitted 15 students from various states like Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The course was launched by S.K. Sharma, Director Health Services.
The RML hospital had also established the National Injuries Surveilance and Trauma Center two months ago through which it has analysed the reason's behind the gaps in the basic life support to the patients due to which a lot of patients loose their life before being taken to the hospital.
"Once the first batch of the students is trained, we will admit more students," Gadpayle told IANS.
Rajesh Sood, Head of Anesthesia at RML said: "The setup of the National Injuries Surveillance and Trauma Center has helped the institution to understand that what are the reasons behind the absence of proper availability of life support knowledge among people and even at the Trauma centers."
"Though the absence of such a institution has prevailed for long and the issue remained ignored completely, but now things will get better and the problem of doctors at the emergency departments of the hospitals will come down to a great level," he told IANS.
