New Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS): In a renewable energy spinoff to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Clean India' campaign, a group of IIT alumni has launched a waste management machine that processes the wastes with renewable energy and then produces bio-manure and bio-gas.

The "Bio-box", launched at the on-going India International Trade Fair (IITF) here is manufactured by Green Brick Eco Solutions (GBES), an Indian Institute of Technology Delhi start-up, the company said in a release Tuesday.

"Bio-box is a hybrid system that will use solar thermal, solar photovoltaic and wind energy for processing the organic waste coming out of large institutions, kitchens, farms and residential neighbourhoods, among others," Pawan Agarwal, managing director GBES, said.

The machine comes in three different capacities for processing 500 kg, 750 kg and 1,000 kg of organic waste.

Output from the system comprises fresh bio-manure that can be used for horticulture. The bio-gas generated can be used to produce power or heat for cooking and in heating applications, the company said.

"Our target is to eliminate landfills in urban India. If we are able to take care of organic waste in decentralised manner through Bio-box, there is nothing that needs to go to landfills as recyclables and inert products such as glass, metal, plastic are saleable in the market," said GBES founder-director Sandeep Garg.
