SC takes notice of infants' deaths in Pakistan hospital

Islamabad, Nov 25 (IANS): The Pakistan Supreme Court Tuesday took notice of infants dying in a hospital in Punjab province and has summoned a report from the health secretary within 48 hours.

With two more deaths Tuesday due to alleged failure of oxygen supply in incubators at Sargodha’s District Headquarters (DHQ) Teaching Hospital, the toll rose to 27 over the past one week, Dawn online reported.

The medical superintendent of the DHQ and some other officials have been suspended for their alleged negligence that led to the deaths of newborn babies.

The Punjab chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) is observing a boycott over the arrest of the hospital's medical team members.
