Three arrested in Morocco over video inciting terrorism

Rabat, Nov 25 (IANS): Moroccan police have arrested three people in the city of Berkane in the country's northeast suspected of having links to a terrorist ring which allegedly uploaded on YouTube a video inciting terrorism, Morocco's interior ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, investigations led to the involvement of the three new suspects after the cell phone used to film the video, the statement read during the footage, and the knife held by one of the suspects during the video were seized, MAP news agency reported.

The three suspects, who were arrested Sunday will be brought to justice after the completion of the inquiry conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor.

Saturday, the Moroccan interior ministry said that a video fomenting terrorism entitled "Appearance of Jund Al-Khilafa in the Al-Aqsa Maghreb" was spotted on YouTube. In the footage, three individuals pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and threatened to commit criminal acts, murders and torture similar to the terrorist acts of Islamic State (IS) radical group.

In 2008, the members of the suspected terrorist cell served imprisonment under counter-terrorism law for their involvement in plans meant to undermine Morocco's stability, in coordination with Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, according to the ministry statement.
