Congress working committee condoles Murli Deora's death

New Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS): The Congress Working Committee, the party's highest decision-making body, Tuesday expressed its deep sorrow at the death of former union minster Murli Deora.

The meeting, chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said Deora stood with the party in all circumstances like a rock.

"Particularly during the time of Indira Gandhi, when the party faced big challenges, he did not feel weak even for a moment. Whatever posts he held, whatever work he did, his contribution was very valuable and will be remembered for long," the CWC said in a condolence resolution.

Deora was a permanent invitee.

The resolution noted that Deora rose from grassroots to become a union minister, and that "all his political life, he had unbreakable devotion to the party".

Murli Deora died in Mumbai early Monday. He was 77.
