Puttur, Nov 16: A student of law who is also the member of Kabaka gram panchayat near here has been arrested on charges of allege rape attempt on a 13-year-old girl at Kallandadka near Kabaka on Wednesday November 15. 

The arrested has been identified as Devappa, a member of Kabaka gram panchayat.  He is also the first year LLB student of a prestigious law college.  On Tuesday November 14 morning, he is said to have tried to sexually assault a dalit girl who had come to his house to give him her caste certificate. 

The girl hails from a poor family and hence to procure the bicycle given by the government, she had approached Devappa.  The latter asked her to produce her caste certificate.  But when the girl went to give the same on Tuesday morning, he is said to have kissed the girl and tried to molest her.  He later threatened the girl that if she informs about the incident to her family members, he would not help her in procuring the bicycle.  However, the girl told about the incident to her father Sundar who in turn lodged a complaint with town police.
