1.7 kg of drugs found in Iranian's stomach

Tehran, Nov 26 (IANS): Narcotics weighing 1.7 kg have been found in the stomach of a 20-year-old man in Iran’s northeastern Khorasan Razavi province, police said.

One hundred and fifty three sachets of narcotics were taken out of the man's stomach at a hospital in Gonabad city after he was admitted for injuries sustained in a car accident, IRNA quoted Reza Ghadamgahi, the police chief of the province, as saying.

The man could not be saved due to the production of a large amount of acid in his stomach, triggered by the narcotics, and the fatal injuries to his head and chest, Ghadamgahi added.

An investigation is underway into the case.

Iran, which has a 900-km common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.
