Putin says Russia to stay out of geopolitical conflict

Moscow, Nov 27 (IANS): Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday Russia is not a threat to any other countries, vowing that Russia will stay out of any geopolitical conflict.

"We are not threatening anyone and we are not going to get involved in any geopolitical gambling or intrigue, let alone conflict," Xinhua quoted Putin as saying at a conference with senior military officials in Sochi.

Putin also urged all related people in Russia to work to protect the sovereignty of the country and its allies.

"I would like to draw special attention to the need for comprehensive approaches and consistent efforts made by all state administrative bodies to address national defence issues," Tass news agency quoted Putin as saying.

Over the past years, Russia had established an integral system of military planning and specified approaches to military management, he claimed.

Putin on Monday held a meeting with Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Valery Gerasimov, discussing issues like the formation of military units in Crimea and the establishment of new Arctic military command Dec 1.
