Justice C.K. Prasad assumes charge as new PCI chief


New Delhi, Nov 27 (IANS): Retired Supreme Court judge, Justice C.K. Prasad, Thursday assumed charge as the chairman of the Press Council of India (PCI), an official statement said.

"Justice C.K. Prasad who retired as the judge of the Supreme Court of India July 14, 2014 assumed charge today (Thursday) as chairman, Press Council of India," said the PCI statement here.

It added that he was appointed on being nominated by a committee comprising Vice President Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and S.N. Sinha, Press Council nominee on the committee.

He was elevated to the Supreme Court Feb 8, 2010 having held the office of judge/chief justice of various high courts since November 1994.

Justice Prasad succeeds Justice Markandey Katju who was appointed as PCI chairman Oct 5, 2011.
