Mangalore, Nov 17: Sangeethotsava - 2006, a musical programme will be jointly organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sangeetha Parishat - Mangalore (R) and Mangalore University at Ravindra Kala Bhavan at University College here from Friday November 24 to Sunday November 26.

This was announced at a press conference held here on Friday November 17. The programme will be inaugurated by Sharavu Raghavendra Shastri, managing trustee, Sri Sharavu Mahaganapathi Temple, by lighting the lamp.

S K Devadas, Subramanya, will perform Nagaswara on November 24 at 5 pm while at 6.05 pm the same day, a performance by vocalist Neyveli Santhanagopalan will be held.

Vocalists Shruti S Bhat, Sikkil C Gurucharan and S Shankar will perform on November 25 at 3 pm, 4 pm and 6 pm respectively. The chief guests for the day will be M B Puranik, former honorary president, Sangeetha Parishat - Mangalore, Dr Jeevandar Ballal of Vijaya Clinic and T D Pai, deputy general manager, Canara Bank circle office.

On November 26, vocalist O S Tyagarajan will perform at 9.10 am, while veena artiste M K Saraswathi and flutist S Shashank will enthral the audience at 2 pm and 6 pm respectively.

Dr H A C Prasad, senior economic advisor (additional secretary), ministry of finance, department of economic affairs, Government of India will be the chief guest for the morning session. Santhosh Kumar Kadri, deputy general manager (personnel and HR), MRPL and Dr C V Raghuveer, dean, KMC will be the chief guests for the afternoon and evening sessions respectively.

The valedictory function will be held at 4 pm on November 26. Dr C R Ballal, honorary president, Sangeetha Parishat - Mangalore will preside. The guests of honour will be Dr Nalli Kuppuswami Chettiyar, president, Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai; Anantha Krishna, chairman, Karnataka Bank; M Narendra, general manager, Corporation Bank and A Ishwarayya, an art critic from Manipal.

The prestigious national award 'Sangeetha Samrat' will be presented to T K Murthy, a noted veteran Mrudangist. G T Narayan Rao, senior art critic, Mysore, Sooralu S Parameshwara Bhat, senior music teacher, Kokkarne and Kamala Pattabhiraman, senior music teacher in the city will be felicitated on the occasion.

The Sulochana R Ballal Best Young Artist award will be presented to Krishna Pavan Kumar G N. The Suvasini Hegde Young Talent award will be conferred on Dilip K J while Usha H will be presented with the T R Krishnan Young Talent award.

Certificates will be presented to the participants of the music work shop conducted by P Prarthana Rao.
