Muscat, Nov 17: Cool breeze and enjoyable weather in Muscat was simply apt to have a great cricket tournament at the Al Turki Ground. It was an Annual Cricket Tournament organized by the Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish, MCCP (Sts. Peter & Paul Church – Ruwi) for their members and their families.


 The tournament commenced with an opening prayer by Ronald Lobo, spiritual Secretary of MCCP invoking Heavenly Father’s blessing on the cricket tournament and all the players in particular.

Claud Frank, an active member of MCCP and great supporter of all the events, was the chief guest for the brief ‘Tournament Inaugural function’  Joachim D Souza compered this program. Jerald Mascarenhas, on behalf of the committee extended a warm welcome to the participants and players.


Tournament commenced with the matches for men below 40 years. Extremely good cricket was exhibited by all the players and finally, Jearald Mascarenhas and his team won the trophy. Team of Terryl Saldhana was the runners up. Agnel Dias was declared the Man of the Match.  Charles Lobo, a prominent Mangalorean in Muscat and ardent supporter of MCCP, did the honors of presenting the trophies to the winners to this category.

Tournament continued with matches for men above 40 years. In an exciting final match, Ronald Lobo and team won the trophy and Valerian Dantis and team were the runners up. Ronald Lobo won the Man of the Match Trophy. Stanley Fernandes, (Dattu) was the guest of honor to give away the prizes for this category.


Finally, ladies played a charming game of cricket. Though some of them struggled to handle the bat and ball, it was full of fun and participated with a right spirit.  Flavia  D’Souza and her team won the winner’s trophy and Flavia Menezes won the runners up trophy. Ida Castelino won the Player of the Match Trophy. Prominent beautician and business woman of Mangalorean community, Jenny Joseph was the guest of honor to present the prizes to the winners. 


 The major sponsors of the event are Premier Logistics LLC - Sultanate of Oman and Truckoman LLC - Sultanate of Oman.   Truckoman are the experts in Rig Moves, Cargo Haulage, Freight Forwarding and Vehicle/Equipment rentals in the Middle East.  Oman Telecommunications Company – Omantel are the main sponsors for whole year’s events and programs.

 Co-sponsors of the event were A’Safwah Dairy, Oman Oasis, Al Reef Trading, Khimji Ramdas and Jenny Joseph.


MCCP Sports Committee headed by Suraj Rebello, Jerald Mascarenhas, Flavia Menezes, Terryl Saldhana, Dolphy Frank and Dolly Gomes have done a fabulous work to organize such a beautiful tournament for the MCCP members. They had exhibited a great organizing ability to present a good tournament for Mangaloreans in Muscat.

The next stage of Cricket Tournament will be held on 01st December 2006 at the same venue.
