Briton charged with 'encouraging' terrorism on Twitter

London, Nov 28 (IANS): A 22-year-old woman in south London has been charged with "encouraging" terrorism on Twitter.

Alaa Abdullah Esayed was charged with two offences under the Terrorism Act - encouraging terrorism and the dissemination of terrorist publications, Telegraph reported.

The woman was later released on bail.

One of the charges is related to Esayed's posts on her Twitter account - together with photographs and video links, police officials said.

“She intended, or was reckless as to whether, members of the public would be directly or indirectly encouraged or otherwise induced by the statement to commit, prepare or instigate acts of terrorism or convention offences,” the charge statement stated.
