Kolkata, Nov 28 (IANS): With the emergence of new forms of crimes, including cyber crimes, National Security Guard (NSG) Director General J.N. Choudhury Friday pitched for a new agency on the lines of the NIA to tackle crimes that have no geographical boundaries.

"After the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was constituted to take up investigation related to cases concerning the security and integrity of India. We need to see if we need a similar organisation and skills to deal with emerging crimes that have no boundaries," Choudhury said at an interactive session on internal security here.

"Besides the new set of crimes like cyber and digital crimes that have no boundaries, there are other crimes that are stretched beyond to more than one state. In that case, investigation becomes difficult. So, we might need an agency like the NIA which would work without having to bother for jurisdictions," said Choudhury.

The Indian Police Service (IPS) officer also advocated filing of first information reports electronically to do away with harassment that people often face.

"In many states, including West Bengal, people have claimed they are facing difficulties and harassment while filing FIRs or police complaints. The Bangalore police have started receiving e-FIRs and maybe that's the way forward to do away with such problems," added Choudhury.

Choudhury also said the NSG regional hub in Badu in North 24-Parganas district would be completed in the next 18-24 months.
