Two blasts in Afghan cities wound 29 civilians


Kabul, Nov 28 (IANS): Two bomb blasts went off in the eastern Khogiani district and the northern Mazar-e-Sharif city Friday, leaving 29 people, all civilians, injured, officials said.

Both the blasts occurred almost at the same time - 1.30 p.m. -- Friday.

A bomb exploded Friday inside a mosque in Khogiani district, Nangarhar province, wounding over two dozen people, six of whom were in critical condition, a local official said.

"The blast happened inside a mosque in Khogiani district when the people were offering Friday prayers, injuring 26 people. Six of them are in critical condition," spokesman for provincial government Ahmadzia Abdulzai told Xinhua.

Nimatullah Norzai, the governor of Khoginai district, has also confirmed the blast, saying an investigation has been initiated into the case.

In the second violent incident which happened in the northern Mazar-e-Sharif city, the capital of Balkh province Friday, three people were injured, police said.

"The terrorists placed a bomb inside a crate and the device went off at 1.30 p.m. in a fruit bazaar in Mazar-e- sharif city, injuring three civilians," police spokesman Shirjan Durani told reporters.

Putting the the blame for the attack on Taliban militants, the official said that the aim of the blast was to terrorise local people.

The Taliban militants have not yet commented on the two bomb attacks.
