Kundapur, Nov 29: Three persons have been taken into police custody so far in the Gangolli unrest which has been prevailing since Thursday November 27.

The losses suffered due to the fire at Jamiya complex have been estimated at around Rs 1 crore. It is now strongly believed that the fire was an act by miscreants. As per recent information, theory of short circuit has been presently ruled out.

District incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, former minister Oscar Fernandes, and Byndoor MLA K Gopala Poojary visited the place. People requested them to take stern action against the miscreants and pay compensation to the people who have suffered losses in the fire.

Vinay Kumar Sorake has promised prompt and speedy action against the persons responsible for the fire. Sorake also said he would talk to the home minister with regard to the compensation issue.

Forensic team has arrived in town to help in the investigations.

Kundapur: Tension grips Gangolli after building owned by mosque catches fire

Silvester D'Souza
Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Nov 29: In an incident which occurred a day after two groups of youngsters from different communities fought, ending with the arrest of one person, a one-storied building complex owned by the local mosque was gutted in a fire tragedy.

The building, Jamiya Complex, was completely gutted in the fire which broke out at around 1 am on Saturday November 29. The building is located within 100 metres of Gangolli police outpost. Reasons for the fire, and whether miscreants set the building on fire, are not known.

It is generally thought that electric short circuit would not have caused the accident. All the shop owners have cultivated the habit of making it doubly sure that main switches are put off before closing the shops for the day. They say they had done this meticulously on Friday night too. It is said that no highly combustible materials were stored in any of these shops. Therefore, many rule out accidental fire theory.

All the ten shops in the complex including four hardware shops, a textile shop, a store dealing in cosmetics, a tailoring shop, furniture shop, and shop dealing with baby needs were gutted. The loss in this incident runs into crores of rupees, as per a guess.

Some people who saw that the building was enveloped in fire, conveyed information to the police. The police immediately alerted fire brigade. Four fire engines fought to bring the fire under control, but could not stop the building from being consumed by fire.

Four circle inspectors, three DARs, one commando, two KSRP, 10 PSIs and police personnel have been deployed.

The incident has given rise to tensions in this small town, which had witnessed an incident of friction between two groups from different communities at around 10 pm on Thursday. Gangolli has always been identified as a communally sensitive region, and the above incident occurring within a day of the earlier faceoff, has fuelled rumours of a possible act of reprisal.

Hanif, who had got admitted into a hospital after the clashes on Thursday night, was arrested by the police when he was coming out after being discharged by the hospital on Friday. He was produced in the court, upon which he was remanded to judicial custody till December 12.

Police circle inspectors, P M Diwakar, and Sudarsha, had visited the village immediately after Thursday's incident, and beefed up security measures. Western range inspector general of police, Amrit Paul, visited Gangolli on Friday and warned that those who try to foment trouble will be severely dealt with. Even after these developments, the fire accident took place, that too within a short distance from the police outpost. The fact that the building consumed by flames belonged to a mosque, it happened in communally sensitive village, Gangolli, within a day of the unsavoury incident of Thursday night, have given rise to several theories. One hopes that police investigation will be able to throw light on the exact reason for this fire tragedy.

Government has promised us to catch the culprits within 48 hours and the losses which we have suffered around 3-4 crore will be paid to us back by government. where we have requested with govt to get the same amount from those who have been involved in such an terrorism act.
Still, the loss of business which we will face to overcome will not be get paid from anyone :(
and if the culprits will not be taken in custody within the promised time, we will have a big protest on day after tomorrow just to get back the justice and not as a revenge !!
And i request you all citizen of India, who believe in justice to come forward and join if required. believe in peace and spread love :) :)

we just need common sense to understand that this act of gundas. it is well planned and uted. truth will come out. all shops were sprayed with some kerosene or petrol like liquid and fire was initiated.

In this investigation, I suggest the police should grill the line man and his dept who were involved in power supply cut and restoration….. Lot of things may come to light. Secondly the reporter who came to Gangolly and was attacked should be grilled….The police should take his phone records and find out , with whom he was in touch since Thursday afternoon….Why he came to Gangolly, who invited him there,,,, The statements should be taken separately from the reporter and his friends who were in contact with him…… if possible Police can obtain voice recording of the talk between the reporter, line man and his friends from the service providers of mobiles…..If this is not possible then a brain mapping of the reporter/ line man should be done. If it is required the police can do the brain mapping of accused muslims….All secrets will UNFOLD automatically Insha allah. ( provided the Police is unbiased )
More over the chaddis are thinking that all the loss is over the head of shop keepers.. But most of the shops are run on Credit facility and the major suppliers are from majority community. Now the suppliers will have greater difficulty in collecting their balances as the court procedures will take years and years in our country.. So every one is at loss….
This is a good lesson for the Muslim community to INSURE their houses and shops....

nevr knew Journalists have to be invited to a place where crime happens! ... are you talking about paid media? in any case, why burn a bike of a journalist? " are you serious, are you serious, are you serious?"

secondly, this place is right opposite CONGRESS KACHERI!!! and area of secular people! you think, police will not keep a watch, specially after a communal incidence?

it is not a mulitta maad or wooden building.. its a very soild concerete...

and since when was the electricity stopped? whole evening? (why not a protest against DK shi? cos, when there is communal tension, disconnecting the lines should be last thing on mind, to make people secure!!) cos, for a hazard, even minor short cicrcuit is enough.. these shop people should be grilled, if they stored any volatile substance, there?

this is an hogwash, and everyone seems to give their justification in the beginning itself, out of guilt.. " there was no power supply, BUT STILL WE MADE SURE< WE SWITCHED OFF ALLL THE LIGHTS WHILE LEAVING, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO POWER SUPPLY?? " even I forget to switch off tv, if there was no power, in the night...!! dude
and CM funds must be on their way! "nanga pudiya shop haakuva"... (we will build a new shop)...!

giving a communal color to every accident is very wrong.. all people of gangolli should ask for a high level judicial enquiry or CBI/CID!!! cos, people have lost faith in police!!

Even today my prayers are with her, and her family. She should get justice.. You have to condemn our system for not getting the justice , Can you quote, what was the unruly statement I gave about Nandita....
Regarding brain mapping test in the case of Nandita, it is still not too late, this has to be done on the parents of Nandita and the boys who were involved in love...Who ever has done the mistake / blunder has to face the music...Whether he is a Muslim or Non Muslim.....I never support goondas / rowdys of any group. Understand .. Hope this will bring down your curiosity and blood pressure......Live a happy life....that is my wish to you.
Are you not worried about justice to Sowjanya, Ragupathi bhats wife, another school girl of kotian family near Byndoor all are waiting for justice..

Why should we argue here, I just gave a suggestion to the enquiring authorities, let them carry out and we shall wait for the results. There is no use of using defending any one....do not forget that I have suggested brain mapping for the Muslim accused also....OK

    3. why not a section 144 here? and why cops n IGP gave "situation peaceful message" ... and how come people go close to such buildings?

I am sure there is something fishy and some one is mingled with the miscreants for their safety and sheltered them. i urge police to be impartial and arrest punish the enemies of humanity. Concerned shop owners and building owner should be compensated immediately. Police personnel should try to maintain harmony not by being partial to one community and target another one. I would like to ask why Mr. Hanif who was beaten by miscreants was arrested soon after discharge from hospital, whereas none has been arrested from the attacker side. I am sure torching the complex has taken place in grudge and enmity.

    Just read the following quote…..!!!!!

    1. “ All the shop owners have cultivated the habit of making it doubly sure that main switches are put off ….” NO HUMAN BEINGS HAVE SO PERFECT MEMORY THROUGHOUT THEIR LIFE…..

    2. “ It is said that no highly combustible materials were stored in any of these shops”…… AND READ HE FOLLOWING SHOP DETAILS…….

“ four hardware shops, a textile shop, a store dealing in cosmetics, a tailoring shop, furniture shop, and shop dealing with baby needs”…………IN INDIA EVERYTHING IS AVAILABLE IN HARDWARE SHOP, TAILORING SHOP & FURNITURE SHOP –IF ANY OF THE STAFF SMOKE & THROUGH THE CIGARETTE BUD ITS ENOUGH TO CATCH FIRE.

If it is a old building then definitely chances poor wiring conditions.

Doubt is the main poison in human life. Anyway let us wait & see what’s the cause for the fire…..

Man sitting in Muscat is judging the facts, without waiting for the statement from the biased Police. already police patrol is going on due to disturbances ....MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IS THAT, THERE WAS NO POWER SUPPLY AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT....Pls refer to the photos published in other news paper and no street lights were working at that time....so it clearly proves that electricity was cut off during this WORK....

Mr Mali Gangolly, you are the right person to say, whether there was power cut during that time or not.......

I pitty on your poor knowledge, first try to understand the comments properly. Then react.

I clearly said , the chances of fire . Did not give judgement on this particular incidence.
    Clearly wrote in simple English…..,

“ Anyway let us wait & see what’s the cause for the fire…..”

If you can’t understand we can’t help it due to your negative mentality & poor knowledge.

Try to solve the problem, instead of creating problem………

No, I dont agree with you Yousuf.
If any one has set fire intentionally, he has to brought to justice and punished.
Here the case is not only of setting fire to a building, but also of creating communal tension.

Expecting Huge compensation from Congi Govt. Disturb peace, and thereby fixing it on opposite community, the owner of the shop keeper only might have put fire in the midnight.

Swift action by police is required. gossip mongers may take the advantage to spread false rumors. People have lost peace with the rise of communal politics.

Expected who is behind this incident. The enemy of peace always love fire. They are spreading across india. This is the real terrorism. We donot want ISIS in india. These communal forces are forefathers of Alqaeda and ISIsi. Muslim community should mantain peace. Hope the law will take its own course.

When communal shot circuit takes place, electric short circuit is least in the mind of many. Our brains are to be re-wired so that we avoid communal violence for silly reasons. Even birds will laugh at us for being so silly and irresponsible.

I am talking about only people involved here, not Hindus and Muslims in general. Mahatma Gandhi said "I like Jesus Christ, but I hate Christians, because they are unlike him," With Bhagvadgita and Quran to guide them, what Mahatma Gandhi may say about them now ?
