Mangaluru: Bus smashes into bike at Lalbagh - Pillion rider dies on spot

Mangaluru, Nov 29: A man was killed on the spot after a private bus rammed into his bike at Lalbagh here on Saturday November 29.

The deceased has been identified as Kiran Kotian, aged around 40-45 years, a resident of Kudupu.

Kiran and another person were riding from Ladyhill. The Rajashree bus which was plying from Bejai towards Lalbagh hit the bike from the rear end.

The impact was such that the bike was dragged for a distance of about 10 metres, and Kiran died on the spot.

The person who was riding the bike escaped unhurt.

Kiran was employed with Hindustan Unilever.

West traffic police have registered a case.

Soon after the accident, locals gathered at the spot and expressed anger over the incident. They also complained that the signals do not work at times.

    i am sorry for writing this but i was not able to control the anger bcoz there is limit for everything .Dont know what action DC will take when accident has happened right in front of DC office. i think so bus should be burnt whenever such accidents occur then only these bus owners will be serious . In Bangalore many such incidents first driver is thrashed and then buses are burnt

    These incidents have become an everyday feature to Mangaloreans. But its sad that we forget very fast.Instead of merely condemning these acts, the matter should be taken up with the authorities so that immediate action is taken to prevent such incidents by killer buses of Mangalore. I request Daijiworld to take a lead in this matter at the earliest to prevent such grave negligence from the drivers as well as the authorities.Maybe a campaign would also help......

    Until and unless the general public take law in their own hands and punish the guilty in our south Kanara the situation will not improve in this types of accidents. The loss is only for the loving dependents of the deceased. May the Almighty grant solace to the grieving family.

    Always These bike accidents take so many lifes but we hear nothing from the official side to improve in this matter.very sad .They should atleast now think of something to do to reduce such accidents either reducing the tempo limit to bus Drivers or bikers.May his Soul rest in peace.Even a seperate path or line to bikers may help not get under These fast buses.Heartfelt sympathys to the Family of deceased.

    Most of these private bus drivers are psychos. They think that the roads are constructed only for their buses, and not for the small vehicles and pedestrians. This one can easily watch in the very act of their giving stops.They never take the bus aside and give the stop,on the contrary on the road itself they stop the bus and make the following vehicles to wait. When people try to overtake these stopped buses on the road they often meet with accident. Why police are not very serious about this nonsense behaviour of bus drivers?

    Another couple with son I front driving a scoter.
    Only husband is wearing helmet to fulfill the law. Are others (wife and Son) safe without helmet?
    What law says?
    Only Scooter rider got the right to save his head?
    Need revelation like west, I am not telling to copy western culture but safety of our people.
    hope district admin and lawmakers open their eyes now.

    Mangalore is well known for mob justice! But when, Bus Drivers rampage in such speed and inevitably hit a moving vehicle or a pedestrian killing them on spot, where is the MOB that can chase the driver and show him some taste of fist.

    In this case, the vehicle was dragged for 10 meters, My god...What is RTO doing, are snoring or busy taking bribes from Private bus owners. The best possible thing would be outright ban on private buses and launch Government buses. That can only prevent loss of lives.

    I cannot express my anger in a more apt way. Being witness to the way these buses ply in Mangalore.And the way innocent people are dying under these monsters. Public should burn these buses whenever an untoward incident happens.
    These drivers are not scared of the police as the cops are usually bribed. Only way to set fear is to burn what belongs to them. Someone has to start this trend for these thugs

    By burning the buses you are burning some other persons property. The bus driver has no loss at it. It is the bus drivers responsibility to drive in a sensible manner. So the action should be taken on the driver himself and not the bus.

    The problem is these drivers are never punished. In any part of th modern world these drivers would have been booked for man slaughter and would have seen light of the day.!there will be a proper investigation . In India these drivers will get away with Rs. 1900/- fine. Victims family will suffer. A 45year old man means I am sure there will be many depends ... Why would public be angry if the law is fair.

    RIP bro!! Pvt. bus drivers have become a nuisance taking away innocent lives almost everyday due to callous driving and high handed rowdy attitude!! Unless the general public does not awaken and tame them in their behavior towards the public and pushes the authorities to start another mode of transport run by the Govt. on the lines of professionally run BEST in Mumbai, such incidents will continue unabated and snuff out lives and maim innocents!!

    Everyday so many accidents take place because of the city buses or service buses. The drivers are so rash that they do not give a damn about other commuters. Police also close their eyes when bus drivers break law. Police always try to catch the helmetless two wheelers as if they have committed a grave mistake. But do not catch any of the law breaking buses. The drivers often seen with mobile phones talking while driving. If questioned, the driver and conductor are ready to start a quarrel. There is one Bus Route No. 19 Billava, who has a very good driver. I have not seen the face of the driver, but he is very good with driving skills and always tries to follow the rules. I wanted to appreciate his good work

    It is very pathetic to see the accident live and helpless to get people to help out. Unless and until people (Rickshaw fellow or any vehicle owner) does not come forward to help the victims.......... no one can be saved. I hope the government approves some rules to the accident people to be helped out without any hassel of getting into trouble with police tortures.Then only people will have the feelings for helping out others and come forward to save the life's. Private bus drivers should be punished severely for their rash driving so that they will drive safely. May his soul RIP.

    I was the Eye witness to this accident, Felt very very sad to see this accident, I would like to correct the news, The person who was riding the bike must have Died. ( he was breathing till we took him to the hospital )
    What bothered me most is that, when i pleaded many Auto rickshaw guys to take him to hospital, none were ready to do so. I called 108, and got the response saying none of the ambulances are ready for dispatch. Finally pvt car owner ( swift) came forward to take him to the hospital. Later i informed few people from the contact list of his mobile, which involved his wife.
    Total disturbed seeing this live, as most of his body parts from stomach was lying on road. The main cause for the accident was, Bus driver came extreme left to the road, he was driving in interlock road..
