Indian national charged with espionage in Pakistan

Islamabad, Nov 29 (IANS): Police claim to have arrested an Indian national who had reached Pakistan on a visa issued in the name of another person Nov 16, media reported Saturday.

Rai Zamirul Haq, district police officer of Muzaffargarh in Punjab province, said that Muhammad Mustaqeem was travelling on a visa issued in the name of Sufiyan Ahmed only for Karachi city, The Nation reported.

Police officials have registered an espionage case against him.

Haq said that an inquiry had been ordered against the immigration staff and police.

Meanwhile, the police produced the accused in a local court which sent him to a 14-day judicial remand.

However, Mustaqeem said that he had applied for a visa for Muzaffargarh but the visa officer in Delhi issued him someone else's visa.

He claimed that “the police took him into custody when he went to the police for departure to India after 11 days' stay here”.
