Modi flags off first passenger train from Meghalaya


Guwahati, Nov 29 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday flagged off the first passenger train from Mendipathar in Meghalaya to Guwahati, putting Meghalaya on India's railway map for the first time.

Modi, who arrived here Saturday, also laid the foundation stone of the new broad gauge railway line from Bhairabi to Sairang in Mizoram.

The prime minister will Sunday address the 49th All India DGPs and IGPs conference, and also a public rally in the city, before leaving for Manipur.
