Mangalore, Nov 18: The district Central Library organized a book exhibition on the occasion of National Library Week on Saturday in its premises on the Lighthouse Hill in the city.
Vijaya Arun, Mayor, Mangalore City Corporation inaugurated the programme and said that books are lights of enlightenment towards knowledge.
N Yogish Bhat MLA, Dr Vaman former Chief librarian of University library, Lancy Serrao, member of town Library authority and corporator, Prem Chand, member of town Library authority and corporator, HP Ramaligae Gowda, senior deputy director, District information and Publicity Department Mangalore, Dr N Ismail, principal, Badriya PU College, Mangalore and Member of Urban Library authority, Mangalore and writer Bhuvaneshwari Hedge were the chief guest of the programme.
The speakers emphasized the importance of books and how the reading of books would help children imbibe a treasure of knowledge.
Prizes were distributed by Yogish Bhat and Vijaya Arun to the children who participated in the various competitions organized by the Central Library, Mangalore.
