Mangalore, Nov 19: ‘Janapada Jatre,’ organized by the DK district administration, Kannada and Culture Department, DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, State Tulu and Konkani Sahitya Academies took off with a colourful start here in Kadri Park on Saturday.


The ‘Jatre’ a collage of various folk dances of the State was inaugurated by Mangalore MLA N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, DK Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer A M Kunjappa and others inaugurated the folk festival by beating the folk drums.

‘Kangeelu Nritya,’ ;Karangolu,’ Pili Panji Kunita, and other dance forms of the state were on display at the festival.

Mangalore University Kannada Department Chairman Prof K Chinnappa Gowda, theatre artiste Jeevanram Sullia, Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director H C Rangappa, DK Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura were present.

A food festival ‘Kalkura Aaharotsav,’ with over 60 traditional food items of the Tulu region was the special attraction of the event.
