Tripura's Marxist CM invites Narendra Modi to address his Cabinet on good governance

Agartala, Dec 1 (Agencies) : In an unexpected move, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, heading the only Leftist regime in the country, has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the state Cabinet.

Modi, who is visiting Northeast states of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Nagaland, is yet to respond to Sarkar's invitation.

The Tripura CM wants the prime minister to address the state cabinet on good governance.

Sarkar, a Leftist stalwart and a politburo member and has been ruling Tripura since 1988.

He is credited with of steering the Left to an impressive win in the 2013 Assembly elections at a time when the CPM was losing its strongholds all over the country.

Modi is scheduled to land at Agartala airport at around 1:30 pm today. During his Tripura visit Modi will inaugurate 726 mw power plant constructed by ONGC-Tripura Power Company Ltd at Palatana.

Modi has long maintained that centre-state cordial relationships are necessary to take India on the development path.

PM Modi on Sunday said his government was committed to the development of the northeast region, and assured the people of Assam that the land swap deal with Bangladesh will stop illegal infiltration and not compromise their security.

Modi said he will use the land swap deal to stop infiltration from Bangladesh and for the benefit of Assam.

"I know the sentiments of the people of Assam. I assure you that I am going to use the proposed land swap deal for the benefit of Assam. I am going to make such arrangements that the land swap deal with Bangladesh benefits Assam," he said.

Modi said the government has changed at the Centre and his government was committed to fulfilling all the commitments made earlier.

Im only 13 yrs old and I agree to what you have said that Manik Sarkar and other communist leaders are not at all corrupt. But what you said about cpim ideology being naxal is just plain rubbish and ignorant. also look at the human development index and literacy of the state kerala. It is the highest in the whole country. also it has the highest sex ratio and life expectancy in the whole of india. Kerala acquired this under the ldf(cpim led coalition) rule. this shows that cpim is not against development. I dont believe that there ideology is a problem. I may be wrong and would probably change my opinion when i grow older. Cpim, i believe, is just against capitalism and religious extremism and fascism. they have nothing to do with naxalism.

The CM of Tripura is a simple, down to earth person. A striking similarity is the family members of the both PM and the CM travel in auto-rickshaws or taxis.

Manik Sarkar is honest and simple man! ... just like their other stalwart leaders like Jyoti basu, Buddhadeb, Somnath da! ...but problem is their ideology! they r not corrupt, but they are anti development and utopian! no jobs, no growth, same slums and people r violent with naxal ideology! .... That is not what the country wants! north east and begal is land of resources, human capita and self sufficient... give them job security, and make them align with mainland! "tourism" has high potential for 4 sisters..

Modi must reciprocate well with the CM!... and try to finish Left as an ideology in this country!... :)
