Don't kill Planning Commission: Congress MP

New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS): Congress member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Monday urged the government not to dismantle the Planning Commission, saying that it should instead be strengthened.

Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, Chowdhury said the Planning Commission had been an important institution and was set up to guide the country towards social and economic prosperity.

"We have an emotional attachment (to it)," Chowdhury said, adding it was identified with the country's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

He said if there was any deficiency in its work, it should be removed but the institution should not be dismantled.
