Kasargod: Cop accused of sexually assaulting woman found dead

Kasargod, Dec 2: The assistant sub-inspector (ASI) who was accused of sexually assaulting a young woman, was found dead here on Tuesday December 2.

ASI Sugunan (52), who was accused of sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman from Adoor, was found dead near his house in Nileshwar. It is suspected that he committed suicide.

It is said that on Tuesday morning he left from home for his usual walk, but did not return. His family members who grew anxious began searching for him, and soon his body was found hanging from a tree near the house, sources said.

The alleged sexual assault took place 5 months ago, but the complaint was only recently filed. The victim is said to be pregnant.

Sugunan was arrested following the complaint and remanded in judicial custody for two weeks, but later let out on bail. He was also suspended from duty.

As per the complaint, Sugunan had obtained the woman's cell phone number when she had come to the police station to file another complaint, and contacted her. Later Sugunan also took her to a lodge in Subramanya and allegedly sexually assaulted her.The sexual attack was committed in month of June in 2014 as per the complaint.

The victim in her complaint mentioned that she was also sexually assaulted in a doctor's residence by his relative Hanif in May 2014. As result police also filed a case against Hanif and arrested him.

    Another false case and Innocent life lost. The women should be awarded death punishment for making a false case. The man needed a counselling to fight the case willfully and b brave. There was nothing to worry as maximum could have happened is ' behind bars for certain time '. He should have been alive to teach a lesson for such woman , now charges of abettment of suicide and murder conspiracy should b applied against her.

    looks a victim of false allegation. Or else it can not be same lady sexually assaulted multiple people and multiple times. She claims it was done by Sugunan taking her to lodge. I am sure she is not matured enough to decide whether to go to lodge with a stranger. Also again she claims she was molested in a doctor's house... what nonsense... looks Sugunan became a victim, could not face the society he must have closed his life.

    Off late, there have been many news reports of such types where people in power have taken undue advantage of young women from the weaker sections and those who are accused in some or other cases and have to report to the police stations for enquiry etc., taken full advantage of seeing their vulnerability by asking for amorous favors in return for some concessions or help or even threats!! This is blatant misuse of power and position even though this looks consensual, but appears to have been done under some duress or bait!!

    It is the need of the hour to have women officers strictly to handle women related cases to avoid such incidents of exploitation of the weaker sections and vulnerable!!

    How can it be called a sexual assault or an attack? 25 year old, fully matured woman travels to Subramanya, has sex with the ASI and she says before that his relative also sexually assaulted her....and she complains now. Obviously, the act was done with mutual consent, then how will it be an attack. If it was an attack she would have complained then itself. Looks like she thought of complaining only after she realized that she was pregnant, otherwise why she had to wait for 5-6 months.

    Pity that maid girl who has to bear the shame, carry the child for 9 months and give care for long long years. God Bless Her.
    There is no law in India, it is just survival of the fittest, similar to the "Old Stone Age".

    @Alex,mangalore,here we really dont know whether the deceased one is really guilty.He must have felt ashamed after loosing Job,and pressure from Society ,most probably at home,and last when Girl confessed she is pregnent,didnt want to live any more.when Girl went to complain was already pregnent must be.everybody in this circle are guilty.How did a Girl travel with a unknown Person so far ,knowing his relative sexually assaulted her before?and had sex ?She can tell Storys.she was matur enough.I dont have pity with Girl for a Change.
