Colombian president just another bus passenger

Bogota, Dec 2 (IANS/EFE): Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos traveled on Bogota's public transport system as just one more passenger while on his way to an official event at Lourdes Park in Chapinero, one of the capital's busiest districts.

Wearing a suit and tie, the president entered the Bicentenario Station of the Transmilenio bus line downtown in the capital, where he paid for his ticket and traveled as an ordinary passenger to the station where he was headed, at the intersection of Calle 63 and Avenida Caracas in the Chapinero district.

Both at the station and during his trip, surprised patrons of public transport took selfies with him or used the opportunity to express their concerns about the country.

The president also spoke with several children and seniors traveling on the Transmilenio at that hour.

After arriving at the Chapinero station, the president walked two blocks to Lourdes Park to attend a presentation by police of their Christmas plan for citizens' security.

While walking to the park, Santos stopped to buy an arepa and went along eating it while greeting storekeepers and passers-by.
