Japan's acoustics, Indian percussion at Kolkata concert


Kolkata, Dec 2 (IANS): A harmony of old and new melodies from Japan coupled with the energetic beats of the Indian tabla is in store for enthusiasts of world music at a concert here Dec 9.

Japanese duo Aki and Kuniko will showcase a blend of sounds of modern acoustic guitar and the country's traditional string instrument koto, accompanied by Indian percussionist Tanmoy Bose at Rabindra Okakura Bhavan in east Kolkata.

"Acoustic guitarist Aki and the koto (stringed instrument of Japan) virtuoso Kuniko join here in a rap session blending traditional Japanese sounds with abstract new musical world. (They will be) accompanied by percussionist Tanmoy Bose...," said a release from the Consulate of Japan in Kolkata Monday.

The musical evening is organised by the Japan Foundation, Consulate-General of Japan in Kolkata and Bharat Japan Sanskriti Kendra, Paschimbanga Bangla Academi.
