Palestinian fisherman wounded in Israeli naval fire

Gaza, Dec 3 (IANS): A Palestinian fisherman was critically wounded Wednesday after Israeli naval forces fired a missile at his boat in Gaza waters, Gaza officials said.

Medics at Shifa Hospital in Gaza city said that the 23-year-old fisherman is in critical condition, Xinhua reported. No immediate comment has been made by the Israeli army.

Around 3,000 fishermen in the Gaza Strip repeatedly complain that Israeli naval forces keep chasing their fishing boats, open fire and detain them.

To ease Israeli restrictions on the fishermen is part of the Egypt-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Gaza militants, which ended a 50-day Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip this summer.

However, the Gaza-based fishermen's association said that more than 10 Gaza fishermen have been injured and around 16 others detained by Israeli forces since the conflict ended in a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.
