Oldest litigant fed up with politicisation of Babri case

Lucknow/Ayodhya, Dec 3 (IANS): Accusing Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan of betraying the Muslim community, Mohammad Hashim Ansari, the oldest litigant in the Babri Masjid case, Wednesday said he was fed up with the politicisation of the issue and doesn't want to pursue the matter any further.

He also demanded removal of the minister from the state government.

"Until and unless he is removed from the government, I will not fight the case any further," Ansari said.

"Why should I bear criticism of Hindus? I am tired of it," he said.

Ansari, who has been fighting the case since 1959, was reacting to Azam Khan's recent comment that the Babri Masjid issue was dead now.

He also criticised Azam Khan for not visiting Ayodhya any more.

"The minister used to come to us before the elections, but now he does not care at all and has let down the Muslim community," he said.

Ansari said he will not attend any protest meeting Dec 6 to mark the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.
