Indonesia export exhibition sees large Indian participation

Jakarta, Dec 4 (IANS): As part of the Indian government's initiatives to raise engineering products' export to Indonesia, 45 Indian companies are participating in an ongoing four-day manufacturing exhibition here.

The exhibition titled "Manufacturing Indonesia 2014" is being held at the Jakarta International Expo from Dec 3 to 6.

The segment-wise exhibition by Indian companies is expected to unleash India's inherent potential to meet Indonesia's demand for the engineering products which would ultimately lead to increase in export of engineering products to Indonesia, a release said.

Indian Ambassador Gurjit Singh inaugurated the "India Pavilion", one of the largest Pavilions in the exhibition, Wednesday in presence of various dignitaries, distinguished guests and executives of the organising committee. He visited the Indian stalls in the Pavilion and interacted with the exhibitors.

The ambassador appreciated the efforts of FICCI in bringing together large number of Indian companies to showcase their products.

Expressing hope that the participating Indian companies will be able to gain entry into the Indonesian market, Ambassador Singh offered all possible assistance towards achieving this objective.

India has a large scope to boost export of engineering goods to Indonesia in segments like machine tools, electric motors, pumps and compressors, foundry and dies etc.

India's export of engineering goods to Indonesia was more than $1 billion in 2012-13. Though the exports decreased by 10 percent in 2013-14, India still maintains a comfortable export trade surplus with Indonesia in this sector.

Engineering exports is one of the main sectors of overall exports by India but India's export of engineering goods to Indonesia is only about two percent of its global engineering exports.

The Embassy of India coordinated closely with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for participation of Indian companies, which were represented mainly by small and medium enterprises comprising of engineering infrastructure; heavy machineries; wires and cables; industrial and medical gases; precision tools and gears; and advanced cooling systems and others.
