300 caught taking alcohol in Singapore during no-drinks timing

Singapore, Dec 4 (IANS): At least 300 people were caught consuming alcohol during prohibited timings in Singapore's Little India, media reported Thursday.

Temporary measures have been put into effect since April this year to maintain law and order in the wake of the Dec 8, 2013 Little India riot.

Four establishments were also found to have committed liquor licensing breaches after the Public Order (Additional Temporary Measures) Act came into effect, Channel News Asia reported.

“Forty-three cameras and over 100 lamp posts have been installed in the area to keep a vigil,” Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre Commanding Officer Ho See Ying said.

A committee of inquiry had found that alcohol and intoxication had played a factor in last year's riot at Little India.
