Multiple attacks in J-K, 20 including 11 security men killed

Updated

Srinagar, Dec 5 (PTI): Heavily-armed militants mounted an audacious attack on an Indian Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district early Friday, triggering a fierce gunbattle that left the three rebels dead. Three soldiers and two policemen were also killed.

Militants today struck in a big way two days ahead of the Prime Minister's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, storming an Army camp in Uri in Baramulla district, killing 11 security personnel, including a Lt Col, and following it up with multiple attacks in Srinagar, Tral and Shopian.

A top LeT commander and seven militants were also killed in the incidents that left one civilian dead.

In a pre-dawn attack ahead of third phase of J-K Assembly elections on December 9, heavily armed militants killed 8 Army men and three policemen around 3.10 AM at the army camp in Mohra in Uri tehsil of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

Six militants were also killed in the attack at the Army camp which is 20 km from the Line of Control (LoC), official sources said.

Lt Colonel Sankalp Kumar of Punjab Regiment and seven Army personnel were among the dead. While bodies of four army personnel were charred, one had burn injuries and the other three had bullet injuries, the sources said.

Six AK rifles with 55 magazines, two shotguns, 2 Night Vision Binoculars, 4 Radio Sets, 32 unused Grenades, one Medical Kit and a large quantity of miscellaneous warlike stores were recovered from the dead terrorists.

Uri is about 100 km northwest of Srinagar, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to campaign on Monday. The sources said that Modi will go ahead with his visit to the Valley where he is slated to address a rally.

In Rajouri of Jammu region, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Pakistan should immediately take steps to stop this. "If Pakistan is facing problems in stopping this, then they should talk to India. We are willing to help them.

He said infiltration continues from across the border and the militants enter from Pakistan and create destruction here. "Is Pakistan not answerable to this?" he asked.

In Delhi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said, "It is possible that this has happened because of elections."

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the attack was a "desperate attempt" to disrupt peace and normalcy.

"Once again shows the desperate levels militants will go to disrupt peace and normalcy," he tweeted.

Police said at least six militants had infiltrated into the Valley from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir recently.

Giving details about the attack, Army officials said a group of heavily armed and well equipped terrorists opened a heavy volume of fire with automatic weapons at the Army camp.

Army retaliated immediately with help being drawn from nearby camps as well, they said, adding the operation lasted over six hours.

Besides seven jawans and one officer, one ASI and two constables of the Jammu and Kashmir police were killed in the gun-battle, they said.

In Soura in the outskirts of the city, top Lashkar-e- Taiba commander Qari Israr along with his accomplice was killed by security personnel when they were trying to enter the city, police said.

They tried to speed away from a check point at Ahmadnagar in Soura but were chased and in the ensuing gun battle, Israr was gunned down. One AK-47 rifle was recovered from him.

The other militant, who had taken refuge in a house in the same locality, was also shot down after a brief exchange of fire.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Abdul Ghani Mir said they had inputs about a militant module having entered Srinagar to carry out a major strike in the coming days.

In Tral area of South Kashmir, one civilian was killed and six others injured when militants hurled a grenade at a crowded bus stand.

Unidentified militants lobbed the grenade on a security patrol at Tral bus stand, 35 kms from here, killing Ghulam Hasan Mir (60) and injuring six others, the police said.
Police have intensified random search of vehicles following intelligence inputs that militants might carry out a suicide attack in the city ahead of the elections and the scheduled rally of the Prime Minister on Monday.

In yet another attack, militants hurled a grenade at a police ambush party in Shopian in south Kashmir but there were no reports of any casualty.

Shopian area has been vulnerable as militants coming from Doda region through Peer Panjal Range have been using this area as a transit spot.

On December 2, Army foiled an infiltration bid in Handwara area of Kupwara district killing six militants while one army personnel was also killed. The infiltration bid was foiled even as people in Kupwara district were voting to elect their representatives.

Proof 1- Secret meeting between Hafiz Saeed and Fekus right hand - Ved Vaidik.

Proof 2 - Fekus silence when paki pigs have been attacked us more than 150 times since BJP has come into power.

Watching Arnab yesterday on TOI, on this issue. I felt like Indians are taken for a ride by politicians, godmen and now there is a journalist. Not once in the entire debate Arnab asked BJP, what BJP is planing to do to avenge the death of our soldiers.
Any steps Modi takes, India will stand behind.

Does Modi dare to take on Pak? We won't talk to pak, is the only line BJP keeps repeating and keeps loosing the soldiers, then it is a shame.

All big speeches by Modi & his BJP Governance.
Where things have improved from erstwhile UPA rule?
If this was the issue during UPA, Modi would have given big speech from roof top.
    Border attacks, Rapes, Murders, Burning.
Instead of making their Govt work for better and harmony, when estranged people were coming closer to them, BJP's fringe groups have started reigning terror in M.P. & Jharkhand and tarnished their party and Govt image.

Today 11 soldiers/security personnels were killed in a terror attack in Kashmir........
Fed up with these type of news in recent days.....
    Who is our Defence minister?...
Why Rajnath Singh gives statement on terror attack first?
This week a church was brought down to ashes in Delhi...no statement from Rajnath singh.
It looks he is HOMA MINISTER not home minister!
    We dont need development.
    Not at all.......
First stop killings of our beloved soldiers....
Instill confidence amongst citizens in Delhi and elsewhere.

There are some pseudo-patriots who were secretly enjoying when pakis rats were attacking India when UPA was in power so that they could point fingers at Dr. Man Mohan Singh.

But now their spineless PM is silent and their Extremists brethren from Sangh and Bajrangees have no guts to PROTEST against Pakis and Fekus incompetence.

Modi is better than ur Maun Mohan Singh. Everyone knows MMS was a complete failure. He did nothing to stop the scams. While our soldiers were beheaded, Scamress was serving Biryani. The Italian Waitress used to control everything.

Today Pappu is protesting since he and his looting party are terribly upset as BJP is rising in every state.

This is just an exhibition of peace by the separatists. Probably their idea of non-violent protests to bring peace to the Kashmir Valley. Anyway, may the souls of Lt Col Sankalp Kumar, J&K Police Constable Sanjeev Koul and the 6 jawans killed today rest in peace. Let's not insult their sacrifice by blaming anybody other than the separatists and cross border terrorists for this cowardly attack.

There are some double-crossing rats who are pro-paki at one end and cribbing abt inaction against militants, saying spineless PM etc at another end. Why don't they go to the border if they are itching for action instead of commenting here like sitting ducks!

Before Election - Feku & Daku were TWEETING AGAINST UPA and saying that under BJP...CHina And Pak will not even raise their eyebrows against India.

After Elections: there have been more than 150 cross border violations, Chinese Incursions, several terrorist attacks.

Now 'Maun'endra Modi is hiding behind his 56 inch chaathi and Daku is busy spewing venom in Bengal.

PLEASE ANSWER: Didn't Modi criticize Dr. Manmohan Singh and claim that China and Pakistan would not attack India when BJP comes to power????

But ever since 'WEAK SPINE' Feku has become P.M there have been more than 150 cross border attacks and he is in MUTE mode.

Indian citizens are searching for a so called 56" chest holder Prime Minister. Surprisingly he visited Indian parliament also in this week to convince opposition parties about his minister's "HAR^^M Z^^DA" remarks and justified it. Pakistan violated ceasefire many times. Maoist killed CRPF personnel in Chhattisgarh and state BJP govt thrown jawans' dress, shoe etc in to garbage. It shows how much BJP respects Indian soldiers. Now terrorists also started to attack on our military, but PM is silent and just barking in his office. Nation's integrity and security under threat because of weak Central govt.
