Kasargod, Dec 5: Just hours after a tanker accident at Kumble Shiriya that completely halted traffic on Kasargod-Mangaluru route, another tanker accident took place closeby, claiming the life of a woman and injuring two others.

The accident took place between the tanker and an ambulance at Mogral Koprabazar near Peruvad on Friday December 5 night.

The deceased has been identified as Mariamma (65), wife of Abdul Rahiman of Manikkot.

The accident took place when the tanker moving towards Mangaluru rammed into the ambulance that was going towards Kasargod from Mangaluru.

The impact of the collision was such that fire erupted in the front portion of the tanker. The locals, alarmed at seeing the fire, swung into action and managed to douse the flames themselves, and thereby averted what could have been a major tragedy.

Mariamma was suffering from kidney ailment and was being taken to her home in Kasargod by ambulance after a dialysis session in Mangaluru.

Mariamma who was critically injured in the accident was rushed to Kasargod hospital, where she passed away.
