Prince William to visit 9/11 memorial in New York


London, Dec 6 (IANS): Prince William and his wife Kate will pay a three-day visit to the US, during which they are is scheduled to tour the 9/11 memorial in New York, Kensington Palace here has confirmed.

The prince and his wife, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are set to visit New York Sunday, Xinhua reported.

On Monday, the prince will attend the International Corruption Hunters Alliance conference at the World Bank in Washington, where he is to deliver a speech focusing on corruption surrounding the illegal wildlife trade, the Kensington Palace announced in a statement.

He will also meet US President Barack Obama at the Oval Office.

The prince will then attend a reception in New York co-hosted by the Royal Foundation and the Clinton Foundation, in recognition of the conservation work carried out by Tusk and United for Wildlife partners, where he will be accompanied by former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea Clinton.

The royal couple is also slated to watch an NBA Basketball game, Brooklyn Nets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, in Brooklyn to support the ongoing collaboration between the Royal Foundation, United for Wildlife and the NBA.

On Tuesday, the couple will tour the National Sep 11 Memorial Museum and view one of the Memorial Reflection Pools and spend time in the Memorial Plaza and the museum, according to the Kensington Palace.

The trip is the first visit by either of the royal couple to both New York City and Washington.

Their last official visit to the US was to California in 2011.
