Mangalore: ‘Kavita Trust’ to organise 'Kavita Fest' at Kalangann on Jan 6, 7

Mangalore, November 23: 'Kavita Trust’ which promotes and promulgates Konkani poets and their works and Mandd Sobhann (R) in association with Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi are organising a mega poetry event. This two-day programme will attract people related to poetry from Konkani speaking places mainly from Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra Kerala and the Gulf. This grand event called 'Kavita Fest' will be held on January 6 and 7 at Mangalore's Kalaangann.

The two-day educational cum entertainment event will kick-off at 2 pm and will carry on till 7pm on the first day. An introductory workshop on Poetry will be held by Melvyn rodrigues on this day First thirty entries will only get chance to participate in this workshop, which is absolutely free of any charge. A participation certificate will be given to all participants.
The following day's activities will begin with a symposium on 'In the world context, where does konkani poetry stand?’ Kannada's famous poet, story writer and activist Jayant Kaikini will preside over and moderate this discussion. Dr Kiran Budkule of Goa University and Stephen Quadros Permude of Mangalore will be the main speakers. J B Moraes from Mumbai and R S Bhaskaran from Kochin will be the support speakers. Followed by the symposium will be a discussion session involving all participants.

A poetry session involving poets from Goa, Karnataka, Mumbai, Kerala and the Gulf will be held in the afternoon. Poets Titus Noronha from Mangalore and Rajay Pawar from Goa will together moderate these sessions.
`Sheviyo-Roce’ a poetry-music jugalbandhi in the evening, which is part of Mandd Sobhann’s Mhoinnealli Manchi programme will conclude this event. This programme will start at 6:00 PM at the Kalaangann Ampthitheatre. Total of 15 poets are going to recite their pre-selected poems and Mandd Sobhann is going to sing 10 of these poems to tunes.
Austin Prabhu
Konkani author Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu will be the Chief Guest for this evening’s programme. Purnananda Chari from Goa will moderate this whole event, wherein some of the top Mandd Sobhann artistes will be entertaining the audience along with the poets.
