Bus strike in Kerala


Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 6 (IANS): More than 37,000 employees of the state-owned KSRTC Saturday called for a bus strike in Kerala, following a delay in getting salaries for the month of November.

Salaries of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees are generally paid during the last week of every month. But this time, salaries for the month of November were not credited to bank accounts till Saturday morning, an official said.

The KSRTC employees protested at many places including major bus operating hubs, took to the streets to protest and stopped the movement of the KSRTC buses.

There are 6,143 buses earning a revenue of Rs.517 lakh daily.

The office of state Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said the funds have been transferred to the KSRTC account and the salaries will be credited to the employees' accounts Saturday.
