Dubai: Burj Eiffel Udupi win maiden KPCL Trophy

Dubai, Dec 7: Karnataka Premier Cricket League Season 1 drew to a close with Burj Eiffel Udupi winning the coveted KPCL Trophy by 24 runs despite a spirited fightback from Mysore Royals ANIB XI on Top.

Earlier in the day, Burj Eiffel defeated Bhatkal CC and Mysore Royals ANIB XI on Top defeated Coastal Cricket Club Manipal to enter the finals of the KPCL Season 1 tournament.

Hundreds of Kannadiga supporters were present at the venue to witness an electrifying contest between the top two teams and the spirit of the game and the love of the community was the eventual winner.

All the matches were played in Skyline University College grounds, Sharjah and held under the auspices of Sharjah Cricket Council. The tournament was sponsored by Danube No 1 building Materials Company and supported by Universal Steel FZCO, Nucaf LLC, Arab Udupi Group of Restaurants, Sharus Fashion, Burj Eiffel and Petrotek.

The Awards ceremony was graced by Thomson D’Silva, KPCL chairman, Vikrant Shetty, brand ambassador of KPCL and member of UAE team during ICC World Cup T20 in 2013, Shekhar Shetty of Arab Udupi Group of Restaurants, Thomas Philip of Petrotek and Easo Cherian of Sharus Fashion who gave away all the awards.

Thomson D’Silva delivered the vote of thanks to all who helped conduct a very successful first edition of Karnataka Premier Cricket League.

 

Final

The final was played between Mysore Royals ANIB XI on Top and Burj Eiffel Udupi. Burj Eiffel Udupi winning the toss batted first and were in a spot of bother due to some tight bowling by Zahoor and Ramveer Rai, were only able to score 48 for 1 in 10 overs. Ashely Lobo 31 of 44 balls and Vikrant Shetty 52 of 33 balls fought back before a blazing innings by Punith Kumar 63 in 21 balls (5x4, 6x6) and well supported by Sameer Nayak 24 off 10 balls helped Burj Eiffel reach a challenging score of 182 for 4 in 20 overs. Zahoor 2/17, Ramveer 1/26 and Sarosh K 1/34 were the successful bowlers for Mysore Royals ANIB XI on Top.

Mysore Royals ANIB XI on Top chasing a steep target fought very hard and were in the game most of the match however kept losing wickets at frequent intervals despite valuable contributions from Mahesh Shetty 24 of 24 balls, Ramveer Rai 63 of 43 balls and late hitting by Neville 33 of 20 balls fell short by 24 runs giving Burj Eiffel Udupi a well fought victory in the first edition of Karnataka Premier Cricket League (KPCL). Sameer Nayak 2/17, Mohammad Kamil 3/35 and Vikrant Shetty 2/27 helped Burj Eiffel Udupi in containing Mysore Royals ANIB XI on Top from reaching the target.

Puneet Kumar from Burj Eiffel Udupi was awarded Petrotek Man of Finals for his outstanding batting performance.
