Key Al Qaeda leader killed in Pakistan


Islamabad, Dec 7 (IANS): A key Al Qaeda leader was killed Sunday in a US drone attack in Pakistan's mountainous region of North Waziristan, officials said.

The drone fired two missiles at a compound in Dattakhel's Khat Tangi area, killing five militants and injuring three, Dawn online reported quoting officials.

The leader, identified as Umer Farooq alias Umer Ustad and Ustad Farooq, had been serving as Al Qaeda's spokesperson for South Asia since 2009 and was the operational incharge of the terror group for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

On Saturday, Pakistan military had confirmed that Al Qaeda's most wanted leader Adnan Shukrijumah was killed in a raid in South Waziristan.
