Modi is Time readers' choice of the Person of the Year

Washington, Dec 7 (IANS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears to be the Time magazine readers' choice of the Person of the Year as he had a seven point lead over Ferguson Protestors when the online poll closed at midnight.

TIME's editors will announce their own choice of the 2014 Person of the Year, who would appear on the cover of the next week's issue of the news magazine, on Wednesday.

But in the readers' vote for the person they "think most influenced the news this year for better or worse", Modi led with 16.2 percent over Ferguson Protestors (9.2 percent) in the second place and Hong Kong student activist Joshua Wong (7 percent) in the third place.

Nobel Prize winning Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai was in the fourth place with 4.9 percent followed by Ebola Doctors and Nurses (4.5 percent) in the fifth and Russian President Vladimir Putin (4.3 percent) in the sixth place.

US President Barack Obama was in the 11th place with 2.2 percent, two ranks behind Pope Francis (2.6 percent).

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton with presidential ambitions was way down in 21st place with just 1.2 percent three places ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping with the same percentage. German Chancellor Angela Merkel was ranked 14th with 1.8 percent.

Results of the Time readers' poll will be officially announced Monday.

When FEKU slipped to 2nd place last week in 'Time readers choice of the Person of the Year', I had commented on this forum, "Publicity hungry FEKU will not let the trophy slip from his hands & his marketing/IT team will put all its efforts to lift FEKU" & result is - "FEKU ban gaya MAHAFEKU"

Results of the Time readers´ poll will be announced today. I am of the opinion that it is much more important if Prime Minister Narendra Modi can fulfil the expectations of the voters who gave him a majority. Especially India's business community hopes Modi will be able to fulfill his campaign promises to jump-start the economy, create jobs and restart stalled infrastructure projects, but he faces steep challenges. In recent years, the country's growth rate and job creation have dipped, inflation has skyrocketed, and investors stymied by the country's sluggish bureaucracy have either sat on their money or taken it elsewhere. Mr. Modi won the hearts of the country's younger voters, a huge factor in a county where two-thirds of the population is under the age of 35.
And the recent elections have shown, that old ideas about caste, religion and region have not been relevant. This election has been a vote for change, for development and for a strong leader. Especially the youth have voted for change, and Mr. Modi represented that change.´
The people of the largest democracy have showed their will and determination for a change and Mr. Modi has a strong mandate but can he implement the necessary reforms.

    Best regards

The article clearly says: "But in the readers' vote for the person they think most influenced the news this year for better or worse".
No prize for guessing if it's better or worse in this case!

Dear Khangress supporters..stop spreading hatred ,who do we award it to then? MMMs who Americans called as 'underachiever' ? Antanio Maino Khan or Raul Vinci Khan for changing their real names and inheriting the fake surname to take India on a jolly good ride, or Janardhana Pujari for losing 5 times in a row the last one by 200K votes?

Modi indeed must be the automatic choice for person of the year, as he won convincingly in largest democracy of the world. Earlier Kejriwal too came close to be nominated as most influential person, when he won delhi and mobilized entire India on one single Anti-corruption platform, using Anna Hazare as pawn.

Both Modi & Kejriwal told the same words. Modi told that in a style and Kejirwal told it in a convincing manner. Kejriwal is exposed, where as Modi has successfully diverted people's attention through his marketing plan from core issues to other.
Either of them having the chance to do what they promised, haven't done todate. You will agree therefore, by this act, they have fooled the nation.

Long live Modi. There is only one political person who is talking about Development after Vajpayee is Mr Modi. All others are only talking about Modi, but they don't care about neither Development nor people. So we need Modi to rule India at least for 25 years to change the political system in this country. Modi's popularity is growing all over the world but Indian sick Secular parties & their boss Congress cannot see or digest his popularity.
